If you’re reading this, you may already know how well Bach’s Flower Rescue Remedy works. The pastilles are a great addition to your Rescue Remedy arsenal.
The good thing about this version of the pastilles is they are a bit more flavorful than the first variety, the blackcurrant flavor really helps. They are chewable, pretty sturdy actually, but that keeps you from grinding your teeth in stressful situations.
I recommended these recently to a friend who was undergoing a medical procedure that she was terribly frightened over. In her opinion, the pastilles really did help. They’re worth a try if you’re under stress and need some relief.

These pastilles are a wonderful addition to the Bach line; they are convenient and easy to use, and the latest addition of the black currant flavor is considerably nicer than the elderflower offering. The problem I have with them is that they are sugar free but still advertised as being pet safe. They contain xylitol, which is an artificial sweetner that has been reported to cause severe, acute toxicity in dogs. Xylitol can cause hypokalemia, seizures, coma, and liver failure in dogs and these symptoms can develop within 30 minutes of xylitol ingestion. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center has issued warnings on this substance.
Unless they have dramatically changed the formula since I last purchased these, and removed the xylitol, these are not a product that would be safe to give to pets. However, they are a phenomenal product for human use! I’ve used Bach remedies for a long time, and find them to be soothing and very helpful in stressful situations.
If you are looking for a formula that would be specifically pet-safe, Rescue Remedy does make a pet version, called appropriately “Rescue Remedy Pet.” The original rescue remedy formula in the dropper bottle is also generally safe for dogs as it does not contain artificial sweetners, though some may eschew it because it contains alcohol, however at a dosage of a few drops the alcohol is essentially insignificant.
The ingredients of the last container of black currant pastilles I bought are listed below, for anyone who might be interested. As you can see, they do indeed contain xylitol.
Active Ingredients: 5x dilution of Helianthemum nummularium HPUS, Clematis (Clematis vitalba HPUS), Impatiens (Impatiens glandulifera HPUS), Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera HPUS), Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum HPUS).
Inactive Ingredients: Sugar substitute (sorbitol, isomalt), Gelling agent (gum arabic), Natural flavor (black currant), citric acid, natural colours (extract of red cabbage, elder, black carrot), Vegetable oil, Glazing agent (Vegetable oil, beeswax), Sweetener (xylitol).
